Hey everyone! I had a really good time in Daytona Beach this past week! I arrived in Orlando in the evening on Monday April 5th and headed to Daytona. Once I arrived there I met my host lady and her name was Beverly. She lives on the golf course where I played so it was really nice and very convenient! The course I was playing is the LPGA International and I had played there for final stage of LPGA Q School so I felt that I knew that course very well. On Tuesday I registered and played a practice round. The course was just as I remembered and was in great shape! That evening was the meet the Pro’s party and it was held at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club. We had great food and got the chance to watch a few dog races which was a first for me… and probably a last!
Wednesday I went to the course early in the morning for a shotgun practice round and played about 15 holes. I was only planning on playing 9 but I guess that didn’t happen! That evening I went out for dinner with some friends to a fun restaurant on the beach called the Ocean Deck. Thursday I went and played 9 holes and then practiced a lot on my short-game for the rest of the day until the sun was about to go down.
Friday was the first round of the tournament and my tee time was at 1 o’clock. They were calling for rain and scattered thunderstorms in the forecast but it only rained for a short period in the morning and turned out to be a beautiful day. I played pretty good, and hit the ball well, but the same theme keeps showing up in my golf game which has to do with the putter. I had a few 3 putts and just could not make anything. I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens and just couldn’t get the ball in the hole. My caddie Brenden was very good and always kept things positive which helped me get through the rounds! After shooting +1 (73) in the first round, I was in the middle of the pack. I knew I would have to play decent to make the cut as the scores were pretty low, and I figured even par would get me in there. Saturday rolled around and I played ok again, hitting the ball decent but had a few bad lies, bad luck, and bad putting which lead to a +4 (76) and unfortunately missed the cut.
Since I wasn’t going to be playing on Sunday, my housemate and I went to another host family’s house where they were having a BBQ. We all had a great time watching some of the Masters and played a couple board games like Clue which took forever!! On Sunday I went to the course to practice my putting a bit then went for a late lunch with some friends and drove to Orlando. My flight was on Monday morning at 5:30am so I met up with my friend Dave Markle who plays on the Canadian Tour, went and hit some balls, then had him take me to the airport so I could get a few hours of sleep before waking up at 4am to check in for my flight! My friend Ryan picked me up from the airport and I got back to Kent to my second home with the Morrow’s and took a much needed nap! I went to the golf course and had a box with new irons that conform to the new groove rule changes and also had a new putter waiting for me which I have been anxiously awaiting!
Tomorrow I will be trying out the new irons and putter and I can’t wait! Thanks for all the support, and thanks to my host during the week Beverly for being so generous and allowing me to stay in her home! Next week I am off to Texas for 2 weeks in a row for 2 Futures Tour tournaments, then to Vancouver for the first CN Canadian Women’s Tour event, then home to FSJ to one of my best friend’s weddings!
