So it has been a while since I have updated, so here goes. I have a lot to catch everyone up on! The last time I wrote was before the tournament in Brownsville Texas. So that’s where I’ll start. I arrived in Brownsville (which is on the Mexican border!) on Wednesday night before the tournament. Had my practice round Thursday, then played the tourney. I playing not so great and missed the cut by 1 shot. My friend Tracy who I was staying with made the cut so I caddied for her the next day which was pretty fun! After the tourney was over, Tracy and I drove to the next tournament site which was in San Antonio Texas. It was about a 5 hour drive, and I got to see a little bit of Texas, which is a HUGE state!
The golf course we played at and housed was called the Dominion. It is apparently the higher class area of San Antonio and numerous celebrities live in the enclosed area of the golf course such as the San Antonio Spurs basketball players, and George Straight. We may or may not have tried to drive up to Georges house at one time, but unfortunately he has his own security gate along with the gates at the main entrance! The Dominion golf course was amazing and probably in the best shape of all of the courses we had played up to this point! After 3 days of practicing, a friend of mine from Canada came in on Thursday evening to watch the tourney on Friday. We decided to go for dinner before checking into a hotel and our rental car got the back window smashed in and they stole my backpack with laptop, passport, and other important items. The night was not what I needed before playing my first round of golf. I had a later tee time on Friday but had to wake up really early after being up pretty late, and on the phone with the consulate of Canada for most of the morning. My options weren’t looking too good so when it was finally time to get to the golf course I had a lot of other things on my brain besides golf. I didn’t play so well on Friday, played pretty good on Saturday (my birthday!) but it wasn’t good enough, and once again missed the cut by just a few. Since it was my birthday, I went downtown San Antonio with a couple friends. We went down to the River Walk which was beautiful and we had a great time! Finally it was time to leave and with the whole passport debacle I had to cancel my flight, get another flight to Seattle, take the bus from Seattle to Bellingham, and then had someone pick me up to drive across the border - I did this way of travel because you are only allowed to drive across the border without a passport and couldn't fly.
When I finally got in Vancouver, I got there just in time for the first CN Canadian Women’s Tour event of the season at Quilchena in Richmond, BC. The weather was a bit of a shock to the system since I had been in +30 degree weather for a few weeks and it was only +6 in Vancouver. I played a practice round, and then that night I had a chance to see the Vancouver Canucks playoff game which was an amazing experience but unfortunately they lost!
The first round came about and I started off a bit shaky but finished up playing the last 13 holes fairly steady and shot 4 over. The conditions were pretty tough so I wasn’t sitting in that bad of shape after my 4 over round. The final round was improved and I started out with a few birdies which felt really good. I made the turn at 1 under and didn’t do the greatest on the back nine. I ended up shooting 1 over and tied for 12th. Finally made a decent pay check!
The next morning I flew home just in time for one of my good friends weddings. The airlines lost my luggage with the dress I was supposed to wear, hair straightener, and all of my makeup was in the suitcase. It showed up at 1230 pm and I had to be at the wedding at 115! I was freaking out to say the least but ended up pulling it off and I had a great time watching my friends Lauren and Kevin get hitched!
Since then I have been playing and practicing, working on the grounds crew at my home course, and trying to catch up with some friends before taking off for the US Women’s Open Qualifier in Roslyn Washington, Futures Tour events in Iowa, Ohio, Illinois, and CN Canadian Women’s Tour event in Ontario, and the list goes on! Thanks everyone for your support and interest in my golf career!
